General surgical referral services

The practice is equipped with colour flow Doppler ultrasound, a full set of flexible endoscopes and bronchoscopes as well as fixed and portable radiography for a wide variety of diagnostic imaging.

We also have full facilities for microsurgery, cryosurgery and CO2 laser surgery.  We prefer to see surgical cases through to recovery and will provide postoperative care and physiotherapy if appropriate.

Referrals must be made by a Veterinary Surgeon so please discuss with your own vet whether our services would be appropriate for your animals.

We are accredited to the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme Tier 2 - the highest available to a general practice.

We appreciate that some clients need to travel to reach us and are therefore available for consultations until 7pm from Monday to Friday.  We are happy to discuss cases with referring vets over the phone prior to referral.  Our friendly and professional staff ensure the highest standards of care for both animal and owner.

We offer a full out-of-hours service so clients can be seen by our own staff 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency.

Exotic species
Burnham House has over 25 years' experience in exotic practice.

Principal Jeremy Stattersfield has a particular interest in reptiles and is an enthusiastic exotics surgeon.  We run special tortoise clinics pre- and post-hibernation; including bloodwork and radiography if necessary.

We have full backup from our Veterinary Nursing team who are all experienced in the handling and care of exotic species.  Head Nurse Leasa Neame is one of only a few VNs in the country to hold the City&Guilds Certificate in Veterinary Nursing of Exotic Species.

Two of our Vets are qualified Marine Mammal Medics and can be called to attend stranded, sick or injured sea mammals.

We have full indoor and outdoor hospitalisation facilities for all exotic animals including vivaria, incubators, aviaries and isolation facilities; as well as accommodation for aquatic species.

We provide Veterinary support for local zoological collections and are experienced at providing full anaesthesia and surgical facilities in the field.
Avian species
Our staff have extensive experience in all avian species including raptors, psittacines, pigeons and poultry.

Jeremy is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and has a special interest in the natural history and husbandry of avian species.  We have dedicated hospitalisation facilities for avian inpatients and experienced nursing support.

In-patient accommodation includes controlled incubators as well as indoor and outdoor aviaries allowing us to care for the complete range of avian species in as supportive an environment as possible.

We will also care for wild species and our treatment does not differentiate between paying and non-paying guests!
