Travelling With Your Pet
Pet Travel Scheme
We have extensive experience with the Pet Travel Scheme, being the closest Veterinary practice to Calais! In summary, your pet will firstly require a microchip and rabies vaccination, followed 21 days later by a blood test to confirm that the vaccination has been succesful. The current regulations state that your pet may not re-enter the UK until six months after the blood test; but you should ALWAYS check the exact requirements for your pet and your travel plans with DEFRA. Their helpline for the scheme is 0845 6030807.
Imports/Exports
If you and your pet are travelling to or from further afield an import or export certificate may be more appropriate. These are usually overseen by DEFRA and the corresponding government body in the other country. The regulations are very different depending on the species of animal being moved, the route, method of transport and many other variables. We can help you with all stages of the process - your first step should be determining the exact requirements for you and your pets by contacting DEFRA on 01737 242242.
